November Photo Challenge: Day One

Anything Goes... was the challenge today. So I marched outside and braved the cold to find some inspiration. Finding a pile of leaves I didn't even know existed was the perfect option!
I'm not a Photoshop person. I'm sure at some point I will need to learn it... but for now I upload my pictures to Picasa. There is an auto light and color correction. I always use those then sometimes add a little extra touch of my own. It works well enough for now! So here is Anything Goes theme! I twisted it to fall leaves :)
If you decide to follow along with the challenge... comment and let me know. Feel free to start late. When it's over... if you send me an email with all your picutures. You will be my hero.

My Favorite Supplies and Tools

1. My Scissors. I was lucky to find a pair of Simplicity scissors for $20 at Tuesday Morning instead of  paying $80 for them. They are the best. When you buy sewing scissors remember to NEVER EVER use them for paper (even patterns). This will make them dull and they will not cut your fabric.

2. My Rotary Cutter. I have the Fiskars one and I really like it. If you want to sew I highly recommend investing in a rotary cutter. It makes your life so much easier.

3. My pink measuring tape. Okay I know... the pink might be slightly unnecessary. But it makes me happy. I got it at Target. It is only 5 feet so I have a traditional yellow one too, for if (when) I need more length. (I couldn't find a good Google Image for that one)

4. My Cricut. It is the most fantastic thing ever. Everyone needs one. And if you have one... use Cricut Craft Room.

5. Lots of Bins, Buckets, Drawers and Shelves. Storage is extremely imperative for any sort of craft!

Trick or Treat Sign

Last Saturday Mom and I completed this fun and simple project to begin decorating for Halloween, I think it turned out really cute!
Orange and Black spray paint- ours was flat and for this project I think that was better than glossy.
A board- ours was 5" by 27" on the smallest part.
Vinyl Lettering- I used my Cricut but you can buy vinyl lettering at most craft stores.
Steel Wool or Sandpaper (if your board is varnished or finished like mine was.)

1: Sand or use your steel wool to rough up the top of your board.
2: Paint your board the color you would like the lettering to be in.
3: Let this coat dry for a really long time. If it is not completely dry your sign will be a mess!
4: Place vinyl letters onto the first coat. Make sure they are centered and aligned as you want them to be before you do step five. (If your cutting with your Cricut remember that the letters don't have to be the same color vinyl. As long as they are the same size and font it won't matter for this project. Feel free to use scraps or a color you don't like)

5: Paint over your letters in the color you want for the background.
6: Again, make sure it is super dry. You're going to be peeling the letters off and you don't want to peel paint off. To make sure it was dry it I tried scratching my fingernails where I knew there was a letter under the paint. That way if it did peel I would know before messing up the part that mattered.
7: Peel off all of the letters on the sign.
8: Ta-Da you now have a super cute sign for Halloween!
Leave comments below if you have any questions about this project! If you make it, I would love to see a picture. Send a picture to

My Own Little Spot in Blog-landia

I've always loved creative type things. My latest and so far my favorite craft is sewing. I love to read sewing blogs, search for projects on Pinterest and most of all to sew. But I don't want to limit this blog to sewing... it could include cooking, paper crafting, sewing or anything else. I love to try all sorts of things. I hope to post a tutorial at least once a week.  If anything I post is ever pinned, it will most definitely make my day!
I read lots of blogs and I know what I like and dislike about all of them. I hope to make this blog a perfect happy medium for people who like it they way I do. I cannot wait to begin posting! Hopefully my first tutorial will go up by Monday.
